The Son — Fully Human, No Divine Essence
The investigation establishes that Jesus is the Son of the Word — not the Word itself — and that the Son is fully human with no divine essence. This is not a reduction of Jesus ‘s significance. It is the legal requirement that makes the crucifixion a valid payment of Adam ‘s debt.
The Kinsman Redeemer Requirement
The kinsman redeemer principle of Leviticus 25 requires the redeemer to be kin to the one being redeemed. Adam ‘s debt was incurred as a man. The payment required a man. Not a divine being with a partial human overlay. Not a hybrid of divine and human. A fully human man who is also outside the chain of inherited sin debt — kin to Adam through Mary, free from the paternal sin nature through the absence of a human father.
> Hebrews 2:14-17 — Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil\… For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect.
In every respect. The partaking of flesh and blood is complete. The being made like his brothers is complete. No qualification. No divine insulation. If Jesus carried a divine nature that was immune to death, the statement in every respect is false and Hebrews 4:15 — in all points tempted like as we are — is also false. The text does not allow for partial humanity.
The Legal Claim Satan Would Have Had
Satan is the accuser in the heavenly court (Job 1:6, Revelation 12:10). Before 30 AD Satan had standing to present accusations. If Jesus carried divine essence immune to death, Satan had a valid legal objection: the sacrifice was not a genuine substitution because the substitute was not genuinely capable of the fate being substituted for. A being who cannot truly die cannot offer death as payment. The kinsman redeemer principle is not satisfied by a divine being wearing a human costume. It requires a genuine human being with all the vulnerabilities and capacities of Adam ‘s descendants — minus the inherited sin debt.
The Son Is What the Spirit Fathered
Jesus is the Son of the Word, not the Word itself. The Spirit of God (the Word, the Father) was the active agent in the virgin birth. What was conceived in Mary was the Son — fully human through Mary, fully the Son of God through the Spirit ‘s fathering. The Son and the Spirit are not the same. The Son is what the Spirit produced. Two distinct things — the Word/Spirit, and the human person Jesus who is the Son that the Word/Spirit fathered. The incarnation was the Spirit entering permanent relationship with humanity through a human person, not the Spirit becoming a human person.
