Gog and Magog — The Final Test
> Revelation 20:7-8 — And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.
At the end of the millennium Satan is loosed from the abyss. Not escaped. Loosed. Released by the same permitted structure that governs every act of judgment and testing in the investigation. The releasing is deliberate. The purpose is the final demonstration of what sin produces even after a thousand years of the court sitting in judgment.
Why the Release Is Necessary
The cup argument, carried through the entire investigation, requires a complete demonstration. Six thousand years of sin were given full expression through the tribulation. The cup was pressed out. The judgment was executed. But the millennium raises a question: would the nations, given a thousand years with Satan bound and the martyred saints sitting in the court of judgment, finally abandon rebellion permanently?
The answer is no. Satan is released for a short season. He goes out to deceive the nations. Gog and Magog — a symbolic designation for all nations willing to follow Satan after a thousand years of the court sitting in judgment — gather together. This is not an army assembling for battle in the way of Armageddon at Day 1,250 inside the tribulation. That was Bowl 6 — military forces gathered to make war against the Word of God at the return. This is deception. People following. Their number is like the sand of the sea. The millennium did not eliminate the human capacity for rebellion. It demonstrated that given perfect conditions, a significant portion of humanity still chooses the dragon when given the opportunity.
Fire from Heaven
> Revelation 20:9 — And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them.
No battle. No prolonged conflict. Fire from heaven consumes them immediately. The final muster of the wicked is ended instantly. The cup argument is complete. The case is closed. Sin given full expression in the tribulation and given a second opportunity after a thousand years of the court sitting in judgment produces the same result: rebellion. The record is final. The new world can be built on the complete testimony of what sin is and what it produces. No one in the new creation will be able to claim they were not shown.
