Revelation 17 and 18 — The Collapse
Revelation 17 identifies the woman who rides the beast. Revelation 18 describes her destruction. Together they describe the full arc of the Babylon system — from its present power over the kings of the earth to its complete collapse in one hour under the seventh vial.
Revelation 17 — The Identification
The angel who shows John the vision offers the interpretation directly. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits — and also seven kings. The ten horns are ten kings who receive authority for one hour with the beast. These ten kings give their power and authority to the beast. They hate the harlot, strip her naked, eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. The political and military power that the woman rode turns on her.
This is the pattern of the instrument being destroyed by the one who permitted its use. The Babylon system uses the beast to enforce the mark and control the nations. Then the beast turns on the Babylon system and destroys it. Jeremiah 25:12 — when the seventy years are complete I will punish the king of Babylon. The instrument is always temporary. The Judge is always permanent.
> Revelation 17:14 — They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.
The ten kings and the beast gather to make war on the Lamb. This is Armageddon — not a single battle but a gathering. The Lamb conquers. Those with him are the called, chosen, and faithful — the great multitude already sealed. The confrontation that has been building since Genesis 3:15 reaches its appointed convergence.
Revelation 18 — The Destruction
> Revelation 18:2 — And he called out with a mighty voice, ‘Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit.
Fallen twice. The double declaration emphasises the completeness of the fall. The system that controlled every nation simultaneously collapses. The angel ‘s voice declares it before the earthquake makes it physical. The physical destruction follows the legal declaration.
> Revelation 18:4 — Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues. ‘
The command to come out is issued before the collapse, not after. The people of God are called to exit the system before the judgment falls on it. This is not purely spiritual language. It is the practical instruction to reduce dependency on the Babylon system in every way possible — financially, contractually, institutionally — before the cup is full and the system falls.
